Powerful 12-amp System Handles the Toughest Turf When it comes to power, the Earthwise 12-amp Electric Lawnmower has plenty of it to go around. The powerful 12-amp system delivers consistent performance and eliminates tricky pull-starts and noisy operation, so you can have all the performance of a gas-powered mower without any of the hassles. And not only is this mower powerful, but it's also a zero-emissions tool, so you can get the job done while supporting the environment.Designed to Save You Time and Effort over the Long Term The wide 20-inch cutting path and heavy-duty steel mower deck ensure efficient, long-lasting performance. With wide 20-inch coverage, your lawn will require fewer passes, which will save you both time and effort. Navigating tough, uneven terrain is made easy by the composite seven-inch front wheels and eight-inch rear wheels that feature ball bearings for better maneuverability and longer life. And the V-handle with cushion grip offers greater control over tough terrain and provides comfort. A nice bonus, the handle folds down to make storing your lawnmower easy. Single-lever Height Control for Easier Adjustments Instead of having to adjust each wheel when changing the height of the mower blade, the Earthwise 50120 Electric Mower features a single-lever height control system that makes it easier than ever to adjust the height of the cut. You can choose between seven height positions, ranging from 1-1/2 to four inches. Single-lever height control is just one feature that makes the 50120 so easy to use. Other ease-of-use features include a handle-mounted safety-blade control, an easy on/off mulch plug for mulching, and a special cord hook for managing the power cord during operation. Additionally, no tools are required for assembly. Simply hand-tighten several components and you're ready to go! Innovative 3-in-1 Design for Added Versatility Outperforming other mowers, the Earthwise 50120 Electric Lawnmower is three mowers in one, functioning as a mulching mower, a side discharge mower, and a rear bag mower. As your lawn changes throughout the spring, summer, and fall, the 50120 will adapt to your yard's varied needs. You can mulch your grass in the spring to help thicken the lawn, or you can use the bag to clear leaves and debris in the fall--the choice is yours! The Earthwise 50120 weighs 60 pounds, and it is backed by a two-year limited warranty from the manufacturer. Bad mower and marketing sleaze... March 10, 2010 kireviewer (Sunnyvale, Ca United States) The company that sells this thing is a great marketeer, but it borders on sleaziness. They call themselves "Great States American Lawn Mower Company". But, this lawn mower is made in China.
They sell this lawn mower like they have invented a new, green, save the planet idea with an electric lawn mower. But, electric lawn mowers have been around for over 60 years.
If you really wanted to be Earth Wise, you would get a manual push mower, that didn't use any power. You would also not have a bag to collect the trimmings so they could eventually end up in a landfill. You would let the trimmings fall to the ground as mulch.
But, the worst thing about this company is that they advertise "green" and "save the planet" and they import a lawn mower made in China with no ecological controls.
As many have pointed out, when you open the box, you are hit by wave of toxic fumes. Don't try to open the box inside your house. I can just imagine what kind of toxic chemicals went into making this mower and the nasty pollution involved in making it. One week after I bought it and took it out of the box, it still gives off noxious fumes.
Note that this is basically the same as the Homelite Lawn Mower sold by Home Depot. It just has different cosmetics to it (just like a Toyota Camry and Geo Prism were the same car, made in the same factory, but with different trim and a very different price).
So much for my holier-than-thou rant. Is it a good lawn mower?
No, not really. It does have some good points, but I think it has more bad points.
Good:
-Easy to assemble (although I did pinch my fingers twice).
-Nice strong motor and cuts through wet grass. Better than any gas mower I have used.
-Easy to manuever (easier than a Black and Decker lawn mower). The center of gravity is near the rear wheels making it easy to pivot and turn. The Black and Decker electric mowers have the center of gravity too close to the front wheels, making them much harder to turn.
-Nice solid feel to the handle.
-Easy to change cut height.
Bad:
-The bag does not catch all of the trimmings. Some of the trimmings (especially the lighter, dryer stuff) get blown out of the bag and up on top of the mower. How could anyone give 5 start to a mower that does not do one basic thing, catching the grass trimmings?
-The cut is uneven. The lawn does not have that nice sharp, fresh cut even look, like a good butch haircut. I don't know why. You would think all lawn mowers could do at least that. After all, it is just a blade going around in a circle.
-The handle is wider than the mower so you can't mow right up against a wall. It is worse on the right side, where the switch and height adjuster stick out several inches.
-The foam padding around the handle is flimsy and tore the first time I used the mower.
-I pinched my fingers twice assembling the mower.
-The guard on the back is made out of hard metal. You need to lift this to install the grass bag. I cut my finger on it.
-It is almost impossible to fold the lower handle for storage. You are supposed to sqeeze it together to pop it out of the bracket on the mower. But, I couldn't budge it. I was able to pry it with a screw driver. But, you need to pop both sides at once, which isn't possible with a screw drive. The way I finally did it was to lay the lawn mower on its side and put all my weight on to the handle.
There are a bazillion different gas mowers, but there are not a lot of options for electric mowers. There is this one (and the matching Homelite from Home Depot), Black and Decker and Worx. I had a Black and Decker electric mower that I abused so bad I needed to replace it. I didn't want another Black and Decker, because they were not easy to manuever. But, in every other category, the Black and Decker is far superior to the Earthwise.
Great tool for the electric mower user. March 7, 2010 Sully in WLA ,CA (WLA , CALIF) This is without a doubt the sharpest tool in my lawn shed.
BE SURE TO GET THE 12 GAGUE EXTENSION CORD.
I RAISE THE HEIGHT TO (SCOOP) MAGNOLIA LEAVES INTO THE CATCHER THEN LOWER THE HEIGHT AND MULCH THE GRASS.
I Like It But... March 3, 2010 Sparky (California) The delivery was pretty quick. The set-up was fairly easy. The problem for me is that it's more than I need for my yard and it's too heavy for me to push around. I looked at the Black & Decker which was 35 pounds but opted for the Earthwise instead. I think I'll sell this one and get the Black & Decker mainly because of the reasons I mentioned. I've used the Earthwise once so far and found that it did a very good job. The grass catcher was very easy to put on and take off. There's no gas smell but it is still rather noisy. Overall, I think it's a good electric mower and worth the price.
Electric is the way to go February 12, 2010 C. Bailey (Reno, NV) The mower has worked flawlessly all summer. If the lawn got too high I just raised the height adjustment (*one knob) and then mowed twice with the 2nd pass being lower. This only was needed to be done once when I came back on vacation. The rear bag worked OK, if the grass is wet you migh have to take it off and push the grass to the rear of the bag once between empties. The best part is no gasoline, plug it in and go and just beware of the cord. Once I learned to mow "away" from the cord I moved right along. This spring when I need the mower, I'll just plug it in and go.
I LIKE THIS MOWER February 5, 2010 Richie (Jamaica) I bought this mower to start cutting my lawn myself and save a few dollars. Overall, its a well made machine, very sturdy. I have used it about 7/8 times in the last 3 months and so far it has done pretty well. I do get some compliments on how neat it cuts for an electric and how quiet it is in comparison to the gas mower.
As it is a corded mower, mowing with the extension cord takes a bit of getting used to but after a while I got the hang of it. The grass bag holds quite a bit of grass and I don't have to empty it till I am finished cutting the lawn (about 2000 sq ft)
I think i may have to change my blade shortly, as I hit a piece of steel hitting in the grass and I think it may have damaged the blade.
Overall pretty good machine, would recommend it.
